T H E P L E D G E
I pledge that throughout my career I will consider the ethical implications of my work before I take action. I pledge to work for a better world where science and technology are used in responsible ways I pledge to use my education for purposes that farther the common good. I pledge always to try my best to understand the importance of knowledge and education, painting a positive picture of where I plan to be tomorrow, not allowing obstacles to stop the growth of my plans for the future. I pledge to seek answers to questions, understanding that the answers to questions sometimes lead to other discoveries. I pledge to seek courage to face myself and work out my destiny in a conscious fashion. I pledge to keep a questionning attitude and an open mind. I pledge to be less selfish, realizing that my neighbor is myself, that all life is interconnected, and that the whole is greater that the sum of its part. I pledge not to let things just happen, and the future take care of itself, but take action, and be a producer of the future rather than just the product of the past. I pledge to seek to build up more character, more competence, more stature. I pledge to work hard, with the awareness and confidence that hard work today will serve as the seeds for my strong tree tomorrow, a tree no one will ever be able to tear down. I pledge to gain a better understanding of myself, by understanding my cultural roots, to fully accept who I am as a human being, and always prepared to appreciate those who are different from me. I pledge to seek, search and study toward building a mental structure and an emotional maturity that will allow me to distinguish between reality and wishful thinking I pledge to support those who need my help, using all the knowledge that I can bring to bear, recognizing all the ignorance we live in I pledge to overcome any personal misfortunes, becoming stronger from such misfortunes, always striving to become a wiser person. May the demands placed upon me be great, I signed this declaration because I recognize that individual responsibility is the first step to progress and peace.
